I have had the exact same problem; though my card utilises a NVIDIA-chip. After disconnecting the TV, and rebooting the PC, the problem stopped. Is there a possibility of horizontal span/multi monitor support in future versions of R4?

when i had this problem for me resetting r4 settings (eaven on a new installation) did the trick
got to start/programms/r4/reset r4 settings than click ok
