seems lke this comes from the graphics card, if i run r4 on my 9000 AllInWonder the transtitions are also choppy, maybe u can increase graphics memory, this could do a change. if you still have problems with the counting scene, just go to the ...r4\data\predefine and delete the counting.r4 file...

If you have PBUFFERs turned on in the screen options (they aren't on by default), try turning them off. You might also want to set the texture width and height to 512 (x/width) 256 (y/height) - this may slightly decrease image quality, but will probably make R4 faster and less likely to crash.
